W ostatnim czasie zobaczylam kilka fantastycznych filmow. Pomiedzy 1933-45 10.000 homoseksualistow zostalo zaaresztowanych, polowa z nich trafila do wiezienia, a okolo 10-15 tysiecy bylo wyslanych do obozow koncentracyjnych.

Paragraf 175 zostal zapisany w 1871 roku (zniesiono go w latach szescdziesiatych): “ Nienaturalny sex pomiedzy osobami plci meskiej albo pomiedzy ludzmi I zwierzetami jest karalny wiezieniem; utrata praw cywilnych tez moze byc uzyta”.

Ci ktorzy wyladowali w wiezieniu mieli najwiecej szczescia. Ci wyslani do obozow koncentracyjnych zazwyczaj unikneli komor gazowych poniewaz byli Niemcami, ale byli poddawani kastracji, eksperymenta medycznym, tortura albo ciezkiej pracy.

Interesujacy film; sklada sie z wywiadow z osobami ktore przeszly przez tamto pieklo.

I’ve seen some fantastic movies lately. One of them - Paragraph 175 – is a documentary about homosexuals in Nazi Germany. It’s really incredible how silent history is about this what happened. Between 1933 and 1945 10,000 homosexuals were arrested, half of them imprisoned, 10,000-15,000 sent to concentration camps and only 4,000 survived till the end of the war. The most amazing thing is that the survivals were labeled as criminals and never rehabilitated.

The Paragraph 175 was written down in 1871 (it was abolished in 1960s): “An unnatural sex act committed by persons of male sex or by humans with animals is punishable by imprisonment; the loss of civil rights may also be imposed”. Before the war however, Berlin was considered to be the paradise for homosexuals and the law was virtually ignored. It was after Hitler came to power when it was concluded that homosexuality deprives the nation of children thus in the future may be an obstacle in preserving Arian race.

Those who ended up in prison were the luckiest. Those sent to concentration camps, because of being German usually avoided gas chambers, but were subjected to castration, medical experiments, torture or hard labour.

Interesting movie; consists of interviews with those who went through that hell.

Piatkowy wieczor w Fat Angelo’s, z fantastyczna lasagna, doktorem Garym opowiadajacym o tych wszystkich swoich przygodach kulturalnych, kilka osob z Kansas, z Meksyku I z Norwegii I taka fajna mieszanka miedzynarodowa, no I znowu kilka historyjek, marzenia o podrozach….

No I co tam…. W ubieglym tygodniu przedstawienie “Bamboo Dream”, kilka koncertow, “Fahrenheut 9/11”, Tsai Ming-Lianga “What time is it there?”, Zhang Yanga “Quitting”, koreanski horror (aaaa…..!!!!!!!), troche japonskich animacji I japonskich gier komputerowych….aaaaaaaaaaaaa

----------------------------

I haven’t been writing for quite some time but so many things are happening that I don’t know where to start and how, everything just blends together….

Yesterday’s Buddha’s Birthday celebrated in Chunking Mansion!!! In Manuel’s words – risk is a risk but there needs to be an evolution. I understood it too late and next time I certainly won’t choose food from the menu with the method – “I’ve no idea what’s that – I TAKE IT!!!” This time it was a drink heavily spiced with salt and chili!!!! AAAaaaaaaaaa!!!!! Next time it can be a poison for rats!

On Sunday a trip to Cheng Chau Island for Bun Festival – beach, Moroccan restaurant, lots of music and sounds, nice hats and such an amazing heat that supermarkets were cleared out from ice creams. Ferry still works for me terribly, but Patrik is going to take care of my sea sickness by taking me few times to roller coaster! It will be fun…for him to look at me dying!!!

Saturday after work with Eagle and Eva in a typical Hong Kong style seafood restaurant for ordinary people, in which the cook comes with a cigarette to have a chat with guests! Few crabs, shrimps and clams and a talk on Chinese restaurants around the world (they have so little in common with true Chinese cuisine)

And Friday night in Fat Angelo’s, with fantastic lasagna, doctor Gary talking about all of his intercultural adventures, few people from Kansas, Mexico and Norway, such a nice international mixture. And again few stories, talking about dreams and journeys….

And so on so on…. “Bamboo Dream” performance last week, few concerts, “Fahrenheit 9/11”, Tsai Ming-Liang’s “What time is it there?”, Zhang Yang’s “Quitting”, Korean horror (aaaa…..!!!!!!!), some Japanese animation and a Japanese computer games….aaaaaaaaaaaaa

I’m having lots of good time, swimming, basking on beaches, eating lots of ice creams and relaxing under palm trees…. But there is also time for reflections, poetry and temporary doubts in the meaning of life...

To jeden z najlepszych filmow jakie kiedykolwiek widzialam.

 ------------

That’s one of the best films I’ve ever seen. And I’m not talking about the form or entertaining part, the great is what it says.

Sam works for Ministry of Information, a huge bureaucracy, and uses fantasy to escaped future-reality. One day he meets a girl from his dreams and undermines his safety for love of her.

There are many similarities with Orwell’s 1984, yet it seems to be a criticism of fascism instead of Marxism. Although the opening says ‘somewhere in the 20th century’ (film was made in 1986) the setting is very futuristic which together with the title gives an impression as if it was to happen everywhere and anytime. Gillian comments that his criticism is aimed at American commercial dystopia, which “bombards you with dreams and deprives you of your own"

Television still blames the violence of the culture on unseen terrorists – sounds familiar?

[...] One of the most significant expressions of love, and especially of marriage with this alienated structure, is the idea of "team". In any number of articles on happy marriage, the ideal described is that of the smoothly functioning team. This description is not too different from the idea of a smoothly functioning employee; he should be "reasonably independent," co-operative, tolerant, and at the same time ambitious and aggressive. Thus, the marriage counselor tells us, the husband should "understand" his wife and be helpful. He should comment favorably on her new dress, and on a tasty dish. She, in turn, should understand when he comes home tired and disgruntled, she should listen attentively when he talks about his business troubles, should not be angry but understanding when he forgets her birthday. All this kind of relationship amounts to is the well-oiled relationship between two persons who remain strangers all their lives, who never arrive at a "central relationship", but who treat each other with courtesy and who attempt to make each other feel better..

In this concept of love and marriage, the main emphasis is on finding a refuge from otherwise unbearable sense of aloneness. In "love" one has found, at last, a heaven from aloneness. One forms an alliance of two against the world, and this egoism a deux is mistaken for love and intimacy.[...]

Aaaaaa!!! Bylo super!!!

Zainspirowani pokazem spedzilismy noc tanczac w pubie w Lai Kwan Fung (dzielnicy zycia nocnego) i tanczac tango na pustych korytarzach akademika w srodku nocy.

-----------------

The Ballroom and Latin Dance competition on Saturday evening was incredible and I've no idea how to describe how fantastic it was. The show started with a Russian couple almost floating in the air to the rhythm of Waltz. They were followed by other couples dancing everything from modern dances, cha cha cha to tango and foxtrots. Aaaaaaaa!!! It was so great!

Afterwards, inspired by the show, we spent the night dancing in a bar in Lai Kwai Fung (nightlife district) and dancing tango on empty corridors of the hall in the middle of the night.

Performances like that give so many esthetical feelings, make heart beat faster and  help to notice some more beauty in life.
